The Old Trouts are hard at work on their newest production, which will premiere in the Spring of 2009. It will be a puppet oratorio for voice, cello, and Foley, with an extravagant array of hand-carved wood puppets that will be built in the Old Trout Mexico Division in Guanajuato, which will be established in March of 2008.
The production asks: what could it mean to be the Greatest Lover in the World? Is Don Juan a cynical monster, or a mystical saint? Should we revile him, or strive to be like him? Do we understand Love? Are we doing it right? Will we ever be happy?
This is a radical re-imagining of the Don Juan legend, a refraction of the many manifestations of that old ghost, who haunts us in our dreams, anxieties, and fantasies. We live under his sign: and we struggle through a murk, seeking happiness, and finding, well, who knows? The Old Trout Puppet Workshop will attempt to illuminate us.
