PINOCCHIO
premiere: 2003
The Old Trouts tackled the classic way back in 2003. Produced by Alberta Theatre Projects, and then remounted at the National Arts Centre for the Magnetic North Theatre Festival, the Trout take on the story attempted to stay true to the spirit of the original story, in which Pinocchio is more of an amoral hobgoblin than Disney's wide-eyed naïf -- for example, he murders Giminy Cricket with a hammer on page 7. (Side note: the way the audience gasped and laughed and shrieked all at the same time when Pinocchio killed the cricket in our production was the inspiration for Famous Puppet Death Scenes.)
